Attention.
- Be sure to carefully check all components of the steering system for signs of shock, which may occur due to accidents or service work. Usage: Damaged parts or parts suspected of being damaged can lead to sudden accidents due to the inoperability of the steering mechanism. Always replace damaged or suspected parts with new ones.
- If the steering gear is continuously turned from lock to lock or if the steering rack frequently reaches the limit stops, for example, during active steering, the temperature of the steering column rises (up to about 85°C), which may cause burns. Be careful when handling the steering column.
- If the steering column is dropped, the electric power control unit may be damaged internally, which may lead to loss of steering function, and subsequently cause an accident. Be sure to replace a new steering column that has been hit or dropped.
- If the steering column is stored in a damp place, the electric power steering system may not function properly when installed on the vehicle. Store the steering column in suitable conditions.
- Be careful when handling the steering column as it weighs approximately 10 kg and may fall and be damaged during maintenance.
- If the intermediate shaft is connected to the steering gear shaft before the steering column is installed on the dashboard beam, the steering column under its own weight may damage the intermediate shaft slider/bushing/yoke. The instructions in this manual must be carefully followed.
- The universal joint can be damaged by impact when the intermediate shaft is separated from the steering gear shaft. Be careful when performing work, avoiding shocks when disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the steering gear shaft.
- Do not unlock the adjusting lever when handling the steering column until it is securely installed on the dashboard beam. If the adjusting lever is released on a loose steering column, damage to the steering column components may result.
- The new steering column is packed in a pre-installed condition. This condition must be maintained until the steering column is fully installed on the dashboard beam to prevent damage during transport and installation.
- When removing / installing the steering column, it is necessary to remove the wiring harnesses from the installation area to prevent various pinching and damage.
Note:
- When installing a spare part, make sure not to turn the steering shaft until the installation is complete.
- To completely cut off power to the electric power steering system, do not disconnect the battery for 20 seconds or more after the ignition is turned off.
- Do not replace steering column (with electric power steering system) another designed for a different car, even if their models are the same.
Installing wheels on a car
When installing the wheels, tighten the wheel nuts in a cross sequence to 108-147 Nm.
Disconnecting connectors
Disconnect the negative battery terminal before doing any work on the electrical connectors.
Removal / installation of suspension rods
Note: To prevent twisting or pinching of the bushings, work must be carried out without passengers and cargo in the vehicle.
To install connectors with rubber bushings, raise the vehicle with a hoist and install the mounting nuts and bolts. After that, tighten the connections to the specified tightening torque with the vehicle standing with its wheels on the ground.
Power Steering Components
Attention.
- If the configuration of the electric power steering control unit is not done, the electric power steering will not function correctly.
- If the components of the steering column or the electric power steering control unit have been replaced, it is imperative to perform an automatic configuration for the proper functioning of the electric power steering.
After carrying out work on various components of the electric amplifier, it is necessary to make sure that there are no fault codes in the memory of the electric amplifier. If any DTCs are found in the memory of the control unit, diagnose the electric power steering system.
