Warning messages - display indication (for vehicles with instrument cluster type A)
The display shows messages related to the operation of vehicle systems or their malfunction. If fault messages appear on the display, check the condition of the vehicle or contact an authorized Mazda dealer.
If the brake system warning light comes on
If the warning light stays on after the parking brake is fully released, a brake system problem may be the cause.
Observing safety precautions, immediately pull over to the side of the road or to the edge of the roadway and stop.
You may notice that the force on the brake pedal has increased or the brake pedal travel has increased (when pressed, the pedal sank closer to the floor than usual). In both cases, the stopping distance of the car will increase.
1. Shut off the engine and immediately check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Add brake fluid if necessary and top up the level.
2. After topping up the brake fluid, check whether the indicator continues to burn.
If the indicator continues to burn or there are other signs of a malfunction of the brake system, further movement of the car is prohibited. Take the car on a tow truck to a service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
Even if the indicator goes off, you should immediately check the condition of the vehicle's brake system at a service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
Note: The need to top up the brake fluid can sometimes be associated with a loss of tightness of the brake hydraulic drive and a leak of brake fluid. Therefore, immediately contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer to have the brake system checked, even if the warning light is no longer illuminated.
Attention. Do not continue to drive the vehicle when the brake system warning light is on. It is necessary to immediately contact a service station, an authorized Mazda dealer for car repair. It is dangerous to operate the vehicle if the brake warning light is on. This indicates that your vehicle's brake system may have completely failed or may fail at any time. If the indicator remains on, then after checking the release of the parking brake, you must immediately check the condition of the brake system in the conditions of a service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
If the main malfunction indicator lights up
The indicator lights up continuously when the following events occur. In such cases, you must contact the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer:
- the system of regeneration of energy during braking is faulty;
- faulty battery charge control system;
- Faulty brake pedal sensor.
In the case of a vehicle with type A instrument cluster, if there is a system malfunction, check the condition of the vehicle or contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
If the ABS warning light comes on
If the ABS malfunction indicator lights up while the vehicle is moving, this indicates that the ABS control unit has detected a violation of its performance. In this case, the ABS system is deactivated, but your vehicle's braking system remains fully operational and will function as if the vehicle's ABS system was not present at all. If the ABS warning light comes on, contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer immediately.
Note: If the vehicle's battery is dead and the engine is started from another vehicle's battery, the engine's uneven rotation may cause the ABS warning light to come on. This is due to a discharged battery condition and does not indicate a malfunction of the anti-lock system. Charge the battery.
If the brake system and ABS warning lights come on at the same time
If the control unit of the electronic brake force regulator detects a violation of the normal functioning of one of the elements of the system, then the warning lights for the brake system and the ABS system light up at the same time. The most likely reason for both warning lights to come on is a malfunction of the electronic brake force regulator.
Attention. It is forbidden to continue driving the car if the warning lights for the brake system and the ABS system are on at the same time. It is necessary to immediately deliver the car on a tow truck to the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer to check the brake system. It is dangerous to drive the vehicle if the brake and ABS warning lights are on at the same time. In this case, during emergency braking of the car, the rear wheels may lock up prematurely and much earlier than it is expected if the electronic brake force regulator is in good condition.
If the low battery indicator lights up
If the indicator lights up while the car is moving, this indicates a malfunction of the electric generator or the battery charging system. Observing safety precautions, immediately pull over to the side of the road or to the edge of the roadway and stop. In such cases, it is necessary to contact the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
Attention. If the battery discharge indicator is on, then further operation of the vehicle is prohibited, since in this case the engine may suddenly stall. This may cause a traffic accident.
If the emergency oil pressure drop indicator in the engine lights up
This indicator warns the driver about the absence or unacceptably low oil pressure in the engine lubrication system.
If the warning light comes on while the vehicle is moving, follow these steps.
1. Taking precautionary measures, immediately turn onto the side of the road or to the edge of the carriageway and stop on a level area.
2. Stop the engine and wait five minutes for the engine oil to drain into the engine sump.
3. Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is below normal, add the required amount of weight of the specified grade to the engine, bringing the oil level to normal.
4. Start the engine and check if the warning light is still on.
If the indicator stays on even after topping up the engine oil, stop the engine immediately and have the vehicle towed to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Attention. It is forbidden to operate the engine when the emergency oil pressure drop indicator is on. This will result in engine failure.
If the engine system malfunction indicator lights up or starts flashing
If the indicator lights up while the car is moving, this may indicate a malfunction of the engine systems. It is important that the driver notices and fixes (remembered), when, under what circumstances and under what driving conditions the warning light came on, in order to then inform the specialists of the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer about this.
The engine system warning lamp may come on in the following cases:
- very low fuel level in the tank or the tank is almost empty;
- the engine electrical system is faulty;

If the red engine coolant overheat indicator lights up or starts flashing
The warning lamp starts flashing when the engine coolant temperature reaches a high value and stays on when the engine coolant temperature rises further.
Necessary actions of the driver
If the indicator flashes, slow down and continue driving at a slow speed to reduce the load on the engine.
If the warning light stays on, this indicates that the engine may be overheating. Observing safety precautions, immediately pull over to the side of the road or to the edge of the roadway and stop. Then stop the engine.
Attention. Do not operate the vehicle if the engine coolant overheat warning light is on. If this requirement is neglected, the engine will fail.
If the yellow i-stop system malfunction indicator lights up or the i-stop starts flashing
If the indicator is constantly on
If the amber i-stop warning light is on steady (other than the situations described above, when the hood is open or the driver's seat belt is unfastened and the driver's door is open), contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
If the indicator flashes
The indicator flashes in case of any malfunction of the i-stop system. In such cases, it is necessary to contact the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
If the yellow RVM indicator of the lane change warning system lights up - RVM (some performances)
In the event of a malfunction in the RVM system, the warning lamp remains lit yellow. Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Note: The alarm may activate as a result of a temporary decrease in the sensitivity of the radar sensor due to bad weather or dirt on the bumper surface. However, this does not indicate a malfunction of the system.
If the yellow Lane Departure Warning System - LDWS starts flashing (some performances)
The indicator flashes in case of a system malfunction. Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer to check the vehicle's condition.
The LDWS system does not work when the warning light is flashing.
Attention.
- The alarm behavior described below may indicate a system problem. Contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer to check the vehicle's condition.
- The warning light flashes while the vehicle is moving.
- The signaling device does not light up when the ignition is switched on.
- On all wheels of the car, completely identical tires of the dimension established by the manufacturer must be used. Tires must be of the same brand, model and tread pattern. Do not use tires with markedly different tread wear on the vehicle. Fitting these tires to your vehicle may cause the LDWS system to malfunction.
- Fitting a small spare tire to the vehicle may impair the operation of the system.
If 4WD lights up or the four-wheel drive transmission malfunction indicator starts flashing (some performances)
The indicator may turn on and stay on or flash in the following cases.
- The signaling device burns constantly at malfunction of all-wheel drive transmission.
- The indicator lights up permanently when the difference in diameter between the front and rear wheels is too large.
- The indicator flashes when the gear oil in the main gear is overheated.
- The indicator flashes if the speeds of rotation of the front and rear wheels differ significantly for a sufficiently long time. This happens, for example, when a car leaves an icy section of the road, when trying to get a car stuck in wet ground, sand, etc.
If the indicator is constantly on
In this case, you must contact the service station of an authorized Mazda dealer.
If the indicator flashes
Stop the car in a safe place. If the indicator stops flashing after a few minutes, you can continue driving. If the warning light continues to flash, contact an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
