Removal and installation of the crankshaft position sensor
Attention.
- Presence of foreign particles (e.g. steel filings) on the crankshaft position sensor leads to a malfunction of the sensor, since extraneous turbulence is created, which negatively affects the engine management system. Check for foreign particles on the crankshaft position sensor.
- Install the crankshaft position sensor only as described below. Otherwise, some functions of the engine management system may be affected, such as ignition timing or fuel injection.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Raise the car on a lift.
3. Perform the following procedures to facilitate access:
- Remove service port cover (installed on the front protective tray of engine No. 2), used to remove the oil filter.
- Remove the front mudguard.
4. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
5. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
Note: replace the part with a new one after each removal.
6. Installation is made in an order, the return to removal.
Checking the crankshaft position sensor
Visual check
1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
2. Make sure that there is no metal filings on the sensor. If sawdust is found on the sensor, remove it.
Voltage test
Attention. If the wiring or sealed connectors are damaged, water entering the connector may cause the sensor to malfunction. To prevent this, ensure that the electrical wiring and sealed connectors are in good condition.
1. Start the engine at idle.
2. Using an oscilloscope, measure the output voltage of the crankshaft position sensor. If the readings are not correct, replace the crankshaft position sensor.
Note: *Output voltage varies with engine speed.
