Removing and installing the ion sensor
Note: Because the ion sensor is built into the ignition coil, replacing the ion sensor involves replacing the ignition coil.

Checking trouble codes
1. Connect the M-MDS device to the DLC-2 diagnostic connector.
2. Check for trouble codes using the M-MDS. If a DTC associated with ion sensors is found, repair the problem.
Visual check
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the decorative engine cover.
3. Remove ignition coil/ion sensor.
4. Check for damage to the ignition coil/ion sensor and for corrosion or damage to the connector. If any defects are found, replace the ignition coil/ion sensor.
