Gearbox Side
1. Remove front protective tray #2.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid.
3. Disconnect the left front drive shaft from the gearbox.
Attention. The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the splines of the drive shaft. Do not allow the splines to come into contact with the gland.
4. Remove the seal using a flathead screwdriver.
5. Using a suitable mandrel and hammer, evenly press in the new oil seal until the mandrel contacts (49 U027 003) with gearbox housing.
6. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the oil seal lips.
7. Install the left front drive shaft to the gearbox.
8. Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
9. Install front skid plate #2.
10. Check the mechanical part of the automatic transmission.
From the crankcase of the torque converter
1. Remove front protective tray #2.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid.
3. Disconnect the right front drive shaft.
Attention. The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the splines of the drive shaft. Do not allow the splines to come into contact with the gland.
4. Remove the seal using a flathead screwdriver.
5. Using a suitable mandrel and hammer, evenly press in the new oil seal until the mandrel contacts (49 U027 003) with gearbox housing.
6. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the oil seal lips.
7. Install the right front drive shaft to the gearbox.
8. Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
9. Install front skid plate #2.
10. Check the mechanical part of the automatic transmission.
From the crankcase of the torque converter (FW6AX-EL)
1. Remove front protective tray #2.
2. Drain the automatic transmission fluid.
3. Remove the transfer case.
Attention. The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the splines of the drive shaft. Do not allow the splines to come into contact with the gland.
4. Remove the seal using a flathead screwdriver.
5. Using a suitable mandrel and hammer, evenly press in the new oil seal until the mandrel contacts (49 U027 003) with gearbox housing.
6. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the oil seal lips.
7. Install transfer case.
8. Fill with automatic transmission fluid.
9. Install front skid plate #2.
10. Check the mechanical part of the automatic transmission.
