Note: Before concluding that the brake system is faulty, check the front wheel alignment, tire condition and tire pressure. Also make sure that the vehicle is not overloaded and that the load is evenly distributed.
Vehicle pulls to one side when braking
- Worn, defective, damaged or dirty front or rear brake pads on one side (Section 1)
- Stuck or partially stuck front or rear brake caliper/slave (Section 9)
- The linings of the installed brake pads are made of different materials (Section 1)
- Loose caliper mounting bolts (Section 9)
- Worn or damaged steering or suspension components (Section 10)
Screeching or grinding noise when braking
- Worn friction lining of brake pad disc
- Excessive corrosion of the brake disc or drum (may appear if the car has been idle for some time)
- Foreign object stuck between brake disc and shield (pebble, etc) (Section 1)
Brake pedal free play is greater than specification
"Soft" brake pedal
- Air in the hydraulic system (Section 9)
- Damaged flexible rubber tubes of the high pressure line of the brake system (Sections 1 or 9)
- Loose master cylinder mounting nuts (Section 9)
- Faulty master cylinder (Section 9)
Excessive force is required to depress the brake pedal
- Faulty vacuum booster (Section 9)
- Disconnected, damaged or leaking brake booster vacuum hose (Section 9)
- Damage in one of the hydraulic circuits (Section 9)
- Jammed caliper piston or wheel cylinder
- Brake pads installed incorrectly (Section 1)
- Wrong type of brake pads installed
- Dirty brake pads (Section 1)
There is a strong vibration in the brake pedal or steering wheel when braking
- Excessive wear or distortion of discs or drums
- Worn brake pads (Section 1)
- Loose front brake caliper or rear brake support plate mounting bolts (Section 9)
- Worn steering or suspension mounts or components (Section 9)
Wheel braking
- Jammed caliper piston or wheel cylinder
- Parking brake mechanism or cable incorrectly adjusted (Section 1)
- Faulty master cylinder (Section 9)
Rear wheel lock under normal braking
- Dirty rear brake pads (Section 1)
- Faulty brake pressure regulator
