2. Locate the notch on the balancer or crankshaft pulley and mark it with chalk or a dash of paint (photo).
The alignment marks are quite hard to see, so they should be marked with white paint
3. Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature and shut it down. Turn off all lights and other additional electrical equipment, disconnect the radiator cooling fan electrical connector.
4. With the ignition off, connect the strobe input pin to spark plug #1 (use jumper wire). Connect the power wires to the stroboscope according to the manufacturer's instructions (photo).
5. Start the engine, aim the strobe at the alignment notch on the crankshaft pulley and note which of the alignment marks the notch on the pulley aligns with (photo).

6. If the notch does not line up with the appropriate mark, loosen the distributor bolt and rotate the distributor so that the notch lines up with the correct alignment mark.

7. Tighten the distributor bolt and re-check the ignition timing.
8. Turn off the engine and disconnect the stroboscope. Reconnect the spark plug wire and all previously disconnected electrical components.
