Water pump mounting details

Warning: The engine must be completely cool before starting this procedure. Be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable before working near the fan.
1. See Warning in Chapter 2.
2. Drain the liquid from the cooling system (see section 1).
3. Remove the toothed drive belt covers and the belt itself (Section 2). Also remove the timing belt tensioner (intermediate wheel).
4. Disconnect the hose from the water pump inlet.
5. Remove water pump bolts.
6. Use a large screwdriver or suitable rod to separate the pump from the motor, then remove the pump O-ring (photo).

7. Tilt the pump forward, remove the bolts and disconnect the inlet tube.
8 Remove the pump from the engine compartment.
9. Gently clean all traces of gasket from surfaces in contact with it. Clean and inspect the o-ring groove.
10. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly and insert it into the groove. Coat both sides of the gasket with sealant before installation.
11. Place the water pump on the engine and attach the inlet tube. Install the two pump mounting bolts and tighten them by hand.
12. Install the remaining pump mounting bolts, then tighten all bolts evenly in a diagonal sequence to the specified tightening torque specifications.
13. Connect the inlet hose.
14. Install the toothed belt tensioner, toothed belt and its covers.
15. Fill the cooling system (Section 1).
