Fuel tank connections
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable so take extra precautions when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke or be near open flames or incandescent lamps.
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands.
2. Remove the cable from the negative pole of the battery.
3. Drain all fuel from the tank into a clean container.
4. Remove the rear seat and access panel, and disconnect the wire from the fuel gauge assembly.
5. Tag and disconnect the fuel lines and filler pipes on the fuel tank.
6. Supporting with a helper or spacer, remove the five mounting bolts.
7. Gently lower the tank and remove it from the vehicle.
8. Warning: Do not perform any repairs, high temperatures or flames near the tank until the tank has been purged of gas and vapors. All repair work must be done by a professional (see next chapter).
9. Before reinstalling the tank, make sure that all traces of dirt and corrosion have been removed. Rust is recommended to be covered with paint. However, if the tank is rusted inside, it must be replaced with a new one.
10. Installation is the reverse procedure of removal.
