A number of overhaul operations can be performed without removing the engine from the vehicle.
First of all, it is advisable to clean the engine compartment and conduct an external inspection of the engine. A clean engine will not only make the job easier, but it will also prevent dirt from getting inside the engine.
Remove the hood (Section 11) and close the wings to provide as much working space as possible and prevent damage to painted surfaces.
If there are signs of a coolant leak. liquid or oil, from under the gasket or insulation, then repairs can be carried out without removing the engine. Oil pan gasket, cylinder head gasket, intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, front and rear cover gaskets, and crankshaft oil seal are also available for repair on a vehicle-mounted engine.
External engine components such as water pump, starter, alternator, distributor (interior heating), fuel pump and carburetor, as well as intake and exhaust manifolds, are easily removed for repairs.
Since the block head is easily removed from the engine, maintenance of the gas distribution mechanism is also performed without removing the engine.
Replacing, repairing or inspecting the toothed belt and oil pump and front cover seals is possible on an engine installed in a vehicle.
In some cases, caused by a lack of necessary equipment, repair or replacement of piston rings, pistons, connecting rods and cylinder liners is possible on an engine in a car. However, this is not recommended due to the unavailability of adjacent components, which must be thoroughly cleaned.
Detailed removal, inspection, repair and installation procedures for the above components can be found in the relevant Part Stripped 2 or other Sections in this Guide.
