Remove cotter pin and remove pin with cotter hole (pic. 10.18).
Remove the pinch bolt, nut and washers.
Disconnect the return spring and remove the brake pedal.
Inspect the components for worn bushings, bent or damaged pedal, worn or degraded pedal lining, deformed pinch bolt, and damaged or weak return spring.
Before installing, lubricate the contact surfaces of the tie bolt, bushings, and cotter pin with white lithium base grease.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal
After installation, adjust the brake pedal position and free play as follows.
Measure the brake pedal installation height, which should be between 21.41–21.51 mm.
Pic. 10.19. Brake pedal positions: a - the height of the pedal; b - pedal free play; c is the distance of the pedal from the floor; 1 – stoplight switch; 2 – locknut of the switch of stoplights; 3 - pusher; 4 - pusher locknut
If adjustment is necessary, disconnect the connector from the brake light switch, loosen the switch locknut, and rotate the switch housing so that the pedal height is (pic. 10.19) matched the requirement. Tighten the locknut and connect the connector to the switch.
Press the brake pedal several times with the engine off to remove the vacuum in the vacuum brake booster, then check the free play of the brake pedal, which should be between 71.12–88.9 mm. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the locknut and turn the pusher. Tighten the locknut when the desired free play is reached.
With the engine off, depress the pedal as much as possible and measure the distance between the pedal and the floor. With a load of 53 kgf, the distance should be at least 11.5 cm. If the distance is less, first bleed the air from the hydraulic brake system, then check the condition of the rear drum brake pads and the automatic regulator. Make sure the brake hoses do not swell under pressure.
