If there is no stand, you can disassemble the engine by securing it on a solid workbench or floor. When disassembling without a stand, be very careful when performing operations on the engine.
If the engine is supposed to be handed over for repair, then all units must first be removed in order to subsequently install them in the same order as with an independent overhaul. These units include the following:
- generator and brackets;
- systems for reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases;
- ignition distributor, spark plugs and high-voltage wires;
- thermostat with housing;
- water pump;
- carburetor;
- intake and exhaust manifolds;
- oil filter;
- fuel pump;
- engine suspension parts;
- flywheel with clutch.
Attention! When removing attachments from the engine, pay special attention to those parts that may be needed when installing the engine or for auxiliary mounting. Mark gaskets, seals, spacers, shafts, washers, nuts to reinstall them in their original position.
If an incomplete cylinder block is installed, i.e. cylinder block with the crank mechanism and piston group installed, then the cylinder head, oil pan and oil pump should also be removed. The list of parts to be removed is determined by the accepted repair option.
If it is planned to carry out a complete overhaul, then the engine must be completely disassembled and the engine parts removed in the following order:
- casings of a gear belt of a drive of the gas-distributing mechanism;
- toothed belt;
- cylinder head cover;
- front and back covers;
- cylinder head and camshaft;
- oil pan;
- oil pump;
- connecting rod and piston group;
- crankshaft.
Before disassembling and performing overhaul procedures, you will need the following tools and equipment:
- standard set of tools;
- small boxes or plastic bags for storing parts;
- spatula to remove the remnants of gaskets;
- reamer for countersinking holes;
- impact puller;
- micrometers;
- pointer indicator with mounting system;
- spring compression tool;
- cylinder honing tool;
- tool for cleaning the grooves of piston rings;
- electric drill;
- a set of taps and dies;
- wire brushes;
- solvent.
Attention! New and overhauled cylinder heads are on sale. Since specialized tools are required for disassembly and inspection, and spare parts are sometimes difficult to find, it is better to purchase a new cylinder head than to disassemble it, inspect and repair individual parts.
