Checking and adjusting the downshift forced engagement mechanism

If the transmission does not downshift when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed and the downshift solenoid is not working properly, the downshift mechanism may be defective or require adjustment.

Examination

When you press the accelerator pedal all the way, the ohmmeter connected according to the diagram shown in fig. 9.24, should show that there is no open circuit between the contacts.

Adjustment

Loosen the locknut and turn the downshift mechanism until the ohmmeter shows no open at 7/8 full travel of the accelerator pedal. Tighten locknut.
