Removing
Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the speedometer cable.
Disconnect the shift cable from the gearbox.
Disconnect the connection wires from «weight» from the gearbox.
Disconnect the connectors from the lockout switch and the positive downshift solenoid.
Remove the starter.
There are two main ways to support the weight of the engine while removing the crossmember and gearbox. You can use a special tool that rests on the suspension mounts, or a winch to lift the engine.
If a support device is used, install it first. If a winch is used to lift the engine, first remove the hood to increase working space.
Install an engine support and raise the vehicle to provide sufficient clearance to lower the transmission, securely support the vehicle on jack stands.
Disconnect the oil cooler lines from the gearbox.
Disconnect and secure to the body all remaining vacuum hoses and connectors disconnected from the gearbox.
Turn out the top bolt of fastening of a transmission to the engine.
Remove the front wheels and mudguards. Remove the oil pan skid plate.
Disconnect the stabilizer bar, unscrew the lower ball joint bolts and nuts, separate the ball joints.
Disconnect the left drive shaft from the gearbox and secure it to the body with soft wire.
Remove the intermediate drive shaft and suspension assembly. Insert a wooden plug or similar plug to hold the differential pinions in place.
To access the torque converter, remove the plate and spacer plate.
Have an assistant turn the engine crankshaft with a wrench on the pulley mounting bolt to set it in a position that allows access to the torque converter mounting bolts.
Remove all but two bolts from the crossmember assembly.
Place a jack under the cross member, remove the bolts and lower the cross member.
Support the gearbox with a jack through a wooden block.
After making sure that the weight of the engine is supported by the support, remove the two lower gearbox-to-engine bolts.
Move the transmission away from the engine and carefully remove it from under the vehicle.
Installation
Raise the gearbox and attach it to the engine, while making sure that the torque converter has not moved.
Screw in bolts of fastening of a transmission to the engine and tighten them the demanded moment.
Install the engine cross member.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
Make sure all nuts and bolts are tightened to the correct torque.
Check the fluid level.
