Air conditioning compressor relay contacts
1. To power control unit
2. To the compressor clutch
3. Battery voltage
4. Not used
5. Battery voltage
6. Grounding
Press the air conditioner button and check how the compressor clutch works. If the clutch does not work, remove the A/C pressure switch and short its contacts with a jumper wire. If the clutch now engages, the pressure in the system is either too low or too high and the system needs to be inspected by a specialist workshop.
If the clutch still does not engage, check to see if voltage is applied to the clutch contacts. If voltage is applied, connect the compressor clutch terminal directly to the positive battery terminal. If the clutch does not work, then it is defective and must be replaced.
If voltage is not applied to the compressor terminals, check the appropriate fuses. If the fuses are OK, remove and check the compressor relay (see fig. Air conditioning compressor relay contacts).
With the relay removed and the ignition on, there should be battery voltage on pins 3 and 5 of the relay socket. Connect pins 2 and 3 with a jumper and check if the clutch works. If it still does not work, then the wiring in the compressor circuit is broken.
