Ignition system with ignition distributor
The distributor ignition system is installed on all models except 1998 models. The system consists of an ignition lock, a battery, an ignition coil and distributor, an electronic control unit, high voltage wires and spark plugs.
Ignition system without ignition distributor (1998 models only)
This system consists of an ignition coil with a separate output for each cylinder, as well as the corresponding sensors and an electronic control unit.
Examination
Ignition system with ignition distributor
1. First of all, check the connecting wires and the reliability of the connections. Check battery charging and burnt jumpers in the engine compartment.
2. Check for spark at spark plugs.
3. If there is no spark, check the distributor cap, slider and high voltage wires.
4. Check for voltage on the high voltage wire coming from the secondary winding of the ignition coil.
5. Check for voltage on the primary winding of the ignition coil. Check the resistance of the ignition coil windings.
6. Replace defective items.
Ignition system without ignition distributor
7. Check for spark at each of the spark plugs in turn.
8. Check the resistance of the ignition coil windings. Check the voltage supply to the ignition coil.
9. Check the resistance of the high voltage wires. Replace defective items.
