TDC is the highest point in the cylinder that the piston reaches during the compression stroke.
Setting the pistons to TDC is an integral part of many procedures.
1. Put the car on the handbrake and turn off the ignition system by disconnecting the wire from the ignition coil. Unscrew the candles.
2. Turn the crankshaft clockwise with a wrench until the notch in the crankshaft sprocket aligns with the T mark on the timing plate.
3. Remove the cover of the ignition distributor and inspect the rotor, it should point to the mark located on the distributor housing (the mark indicates the location of the spark plug wire contact of the first cylinder). If the rotor is rotated 180°, then piston N1 is at TDC on the exhaust stroke.
4. Rotate the crankshaft one full turn (360°) clockwise. Piston N1 is at TDC on the compression stroke.
