Preliminary check
1. Warm up the engine and transmission to normal operating temperature.
2. Check the transmission fluid level:
- A) if the level is too low, add fluid and repeat the test;
- b) if the level is too high, drain the excess liquid;
- V) if the fluid foams, drain it and refill with new fluid. Check to see if engine coolant is getting into the transmission fluid.
3. Check engine idle speed.
4. Check the throttle cable.
5. Check the operation of the gear shift mechanism.
Finding a leak
If you find that there is a transmission fluid leak, you need to pinpoint its location. To do this, warm up the engine and place the car on a sheet of clean cardboard. After a few minutes, you will be able to easily determine the location of the leak by the spots formed on the cardboard.
