2. A selector is usually installed in the mirror control switch, which switches the voltage supply to the left or right mirror. With the ignition on (on idle engine) lower the door windows and check the operation of both mirrors in all directions (up and down and left and right).
3. Listen carefully to the noise when the relevant electric motor is turned on.
4. If motor noise is heard, but the mirror remains stationary, the problem may be in the mirror movement mechanism. To fix the problem, remove and disassemble the mirror.
5. If the mirror is stationary and you cannot hear the sound of the motor, first check the fuse of the car radio (15 A). located in the fuse box installed in the passenger compartment (see paragraph 3).
6. If the fuse is good, remove the mirror control switch without disconnecting the wiring from it. On Probe and Mazda MX-6 models, this switch is located on the driver's door. On the Mazda 626 model, the switch is installed on the left old dashboard (pic. 26.6). Switch on the ignition and check that there is voltage at the switch terminal. There should be voltage on only one terminal. If there is no voltage, check the wiring between the fuse and the switch.
7. If voltage is present, disconnect the switch. Check for contact between the switch terminals in all positions (pic. 26.7, a-c).If the switch is defective, replace it.
8. Connect the switch. Locate the switch ground wire. Press the switch and connect the ground terminal to the vehicle ground with a jumper. If the electric motors start to work, repair the break in the ground switch.
9. If the mirror does not start, remove the cover and check for voltage at the mirror motor terminal (with a control light). This test should be carried out with the ignition on and the mirror control switch button depressed. Switch the switch to all positions and check that there is voltage at the corresponding terminal.
10. If there is no voltage in all positions of the switch, check the wiring between the mirror and the switch. Repair short or open wiring.
11. If voltage is present, remove the mirror and connect the jumper control motors directly to the battery. If the motors still do not work, replace the mirror (see chapter 11).
