Note. Due to the complexity of the design of an automatic transmission, it is difficult for a home mechanic to identify or repair a malfunction in it, other than those listed below. For other malfunctions, contact the dealer or a specialized service station.
49. Fluid leak
1. Automatic transmission fluid has a thick red color. Do not confuse this fluid with engine oil, which can be blown from the engine to the transmission by ram air.
2. To determine the location of the leak, clean the transmission case of dirt and oil with suitable detergents or steam. Then drive the vehicle for a short time at low speed so that the air currents do not apply new oil to the transmission from other leaks. Raise the car and see where the fluid is coming from. Most common leak locations:
- A) Pallet (see chapters 1 and 7)
- b) A tube (see chapters 1 and 7)
- V) Transmission Fluid Lines (see chapter 7)
- G) Speed sensor (see chapter 7)
50. Transmission fluid is brown or burnt
Transmission overheating (see chapter 1).
51. Problems with switching modes
1. In chapter 7B describes the check and adjustment of the mechanism for switching modes in an automatic transmission. A misalignment can cause the following problems:
- V) The engine can be started in modes other than "neutral" And "parking".
- b) The mode indicator shows a different mode than the actual inclusion.
- V) The car rolls in position "parking".
2. Adjust the mode switch mechanism as indicated in chapter 7B.
52. The lower gear does not turn on when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor
Faulty kickdown solenoid (see chapter 7B).
53. Engine starts in selector positions other than Neutral or Park
Faulty engine immobilizer switch (chapter 76).
54. Slip or jerk when shifting gears
There are many reasons for the occurrence of such malfunctions, but the car owner can hardly find and eliminate them. Check the level and condition of the transmission fluid and. if this is not the reason, transfer the car to the service station specialists for troubleshooting.
