1. Failure of the water pump can lead to serious engine failure due to overheating. If the pump is defective, replace it with a new or remanufactured one.
2. Remove the cover (And) toothed belt (see chapter 2A or 2B).
3. The water pump has special drainage channels (pic. 6.3). If the seal fails, coolant will flow out of the hole provided for this purpose. In order to find it, you may need a portable lamp.
4. Check the condition of the water pump shaft bearing. To do this, grab the pump hub with your hand and gently rock it from side to side. If play is felt, this indicates a strong wear of the bearing support.
5. Worn water pump bearing can cause "howling" sound when the engine is running. Do not confuse this sound with the squeal that occurs when the accessory drive belt slips. If a squeal is heard when the engine is running, check the condition and tension of the belt.
