Attention! Allow the engine to cool completely before removing the manifold.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Warning! If your vehicle has an anti-theft audio system, make sure you have the unlock code before disconnecting the battery.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor. If you are going to install a new manifold, remove the sensor and reinstall it with a new one.
3. Remove the bolts and remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold (pic. 9.3).
4. Moisten with low viscosity oil the bolts of the exhaust manifold, as well as the nuts of the bypass pipe of the gas recirculation system and the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system.
5. Raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands (see chapter 1).
6. Turn away bolts of fastening of a reception pipe to the engine and lower a reception pipe with catalytic converter.
7. Turn away bolts and nuts of fastening of a final collector and disconnect it from a head of cylinders (fig 9.7).
Note. If any bolts will not loosen, re-moisten them with liquid oil and allow the oil to penetrate the threads for at least 15 minutes. If any bolts or studs break when unscrewing, try to unscrew them with a self-tightening wrench after removing the manifold. If, in this case, the broken bolt cannot be removed, use a tool to remove the broken studs. Use only products designed for exhaust systems to replace damaged fasteners.
Installation
8. Scrape off the remains of the old gasket and soot from the mounting surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head. If there are leaks from under the gasket, check if the mounting surface of the manifold is warped. Surface flatness can be restored by grinding.
Caution: Be careful when using the scraper - the aluminum surface of the cylinder head is easily scratched.
9. Put on a new lining under a collector on hairpins of a head of cylinders.
10. Replace manifold and secure with bolts and nuts.
11. Tighten fasteners, starting from the middle to the edges, in several stages until the required torque is reached.
12. Establish remaining details in sequence, return to their removal. Apply anti-seize compound to the threads when installing the oxygen sensor.
13. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
