If you decide to remove the engine for an overhaul or major maintenance, perform the following preliminary steps.
It is very important to choose a place to perform such work. It should provide the necessary working space, as well as the safety of the car. If it is not possible to use a workshop or garage for this purpose, in extreme cases you can limit yourself to a flat horizontal platform with concrete or asphalt pavement.
Wash the engine and the entire engine compartment before starting work. This will allow you to better organize your work and keep your tools clean.
You will need a hoist, hoist or winch. The hoist must be sized for the weight of the engine along with the transmission. It is especially important to ensure the safety of rigging, as an engine failure can be catastrophic for your vehicle and possibly for you.
If you do not have experience in such work, you need an assistant. Advice or help from a specialist will not be superfluous. In many cases, it is simply impossible to perform several operations at the same time alone, which are necessary to remove the engine.
Plan all your work ahead of time. Buy or borrow all the necessary tools and fixtures. It is recommended, in addition to the hoist or winch, to have on hand a cart with a jack, a full set of open-end and socket wrenches (their list is given in the appendix), wooden blocks, plenty of rags to clean up spills and solvents to wash parts.
Accept that you won't have to use your car for a while. If in the process of repair such types of work are found that require machine equipment. You will have to contact a workshop or service station. Just in case, check if the service station can quickly fulfill your order if necessary.
Be extremely careful when removing and installing the engine. Careless actions can lead to serious consequences. Take the time to think over the entire sequence of operations and this will help you successfully complete any, the most difficult job.
