Specifications of the ignition system (Mazda Familia 5, 1985-1989)

The engine ignition system is electronic, non-contact, type HEI. The ignition distributor sensor with vacuum and centrifugal ignition timing controls has a non-contact sensor (Hall Sensor), which outputs voltage pulses directly to the ignition coil.

Ignition distributor

Brand: Mitsubishi.

Initial ignition timing (with vacuum hose disconnected):

engine B3: 2°±1°;
motors V5, V6: 6°±1°;
B6 EGI engine: 12°±1°.

Ignition coil

Make and type: Man SH.N.

Resistance of the secondary winding, kOhm: 10-30.

Spark plug

Make and type: Denso W 16EXR-U or W 20 EXR-U or NGK BPR 5 ES or BPR 6 ES.

Gap between electrodes, mm:

engines without turbocharger: 0.75-0.85;
engines with a turbocharger: 0.70-0.80.

Engines B3 and B6. Characteristics of automatic ignition advance: A - characteristic of the centrifugal regulator; B - characteristic of the vacuum regulator. When checking on a car, add the initial ignition timing. When checking the distribution sensor on the stand, reduce the values by half.
