Instructions for starting the engine when the air-fuel mixture is too rich (gasoline engine)

If the engine does not start, then the possible cause is an over-rich air-fuel mixture (too much fuel has entered the combustion chambers of the engine) and getting fuel on the spark plugs.

To start the engine in such a situation, perform the following steps.

1. Fully depress and hold the accelerator pedal.

2. Turn the ignition switch to position «START» (starter) and hold it in this position for up to 10 s. If the engine starts, immediately release the starter switch and the accelerator pedal. If you do not immediately release the accelerator pedal, then the engine speed will increase sharply.

3. If the engine does not start when the starter is running with the accelerator pedal fully depressed, then after a 10-second pause, turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal. Crank the crankshaft with the starter for 10 seconds or until the engine starts.
