Variable Performance Duct Control (VAD)

The VAD control system opens the VAD damper in the air filter only at high engine speeds so that engine power is not reduced at high engine speeds due to insufficient air mass flow. The PCM activates the VAD control solenoid to open the throttle when the following conditions are met:

• coolant temperature - above 70°C;
• engine speed - above 5800 min^-1;
• throttle opening angle - more than 50%.
