To check, the following devices are needed: Hydrometer for coolant.
Required Parts (Consumables): Concentrate (antifreeze) for the manufacture of coolant. Ford and Mazda vehicles use Motorcraft Super Plus4 antifreeze or other antifreeze that meets Ford ESDM-97B49-A. Before the onset of cold weather, it is necessary to check the concentration of the coolant, especially in cases where water has been poured into the system.
The engine must not be warm. The measurements are carried out at room temperature, i.e. +21°C. There are hydrometers with a built-in thermometer.
Unscrew the cover of the expansion tank.
Draw coolant into the hydrometer and determine the density of the coolant. It is often given simply in degrees, corresponding to the freezing point of the coolant. When the ratio of concentrate and water is 1:1, the freezing point is about -35°C.
