The car can also be equipped with an automatic transmission type CTX. V gearbox type CTX (CTX - Continuosly Variable Transaxle) the transmission of power from the engine is stepless, through a steel belt, which consists of hundreds of high-strength steel links. It provides the connection between the input shaft of the gearbox and the output shaft and runs in pairs of tapered discs. These disks, which form pulleys, are hydraulically compressed or expanded depending on the driving mode and vehicle load. Accordingly, the transfer belt descends deeper or - extends higher outwardly along the pulleys.
In this regard, the gear ratio changes steplessly. The hydraulic control unit of the CTX type gearbox automatically selects the gear ratio so that the engine always works in the optimum mode.
In order to accelerate faster, for example when overtaking, the automatic transmission has a so-called mode switch «kickdown», which is activated when the pedal is fully pressed «gas». Device «kickdown» ensures that a reduced gear ratio is selected on the gearbox.
To discuss the operation of an automatic transmission and properly diagnose problems, experience with automatic transmissions and knowledge of how they work is essential. Therefore, only the adjustment of the shift control cable is described here. Maintenance operations (oil level check, oil change) described in chapter 6.
